National Tooth Fairy Day – August 22nd
August 22, 2023Did you know that National Tooth Fairy Day is celebrated twice a year? Every February and August, you can celebrate the Tooth Fairy! Let’s learn some fun facts about losing baby teeth.
- Most kids start losing their baby teeth at about age five or six.
- It normally takes five to seven years for all of your baby teeth to be replaced by permanent teeth.
- The first baby teeth to fall out are typically the two front top teeth and two front bottom teeth.
Baby tooth loss is the perfect time to teach your child about taking care of their oral health and what it means to have permanent teeth. Here are a few tips on how to support your child during this milestone.
- Empower your child by teaching them how to take care of their teeth, to actively talk about any concerns they might have, and have them be a part of the baby tooth loss process.
- Baby tooth loss can cause some discomfort and fear. To alleviate those feelings, try having your child gargle with warm water to help clean the area and have them gently brush their teeth and the area where the tooth loss occurred.
- Lastly, celebrate this milestone by having them create their own Tooth Fairy box! Download our “make your own Tooth Fairy box” activity sheet to store your child’s baby tooth before leaving it under their pillow for the Tooth Fairy.
