Gum Disease Awareness Month

February 27, 2023

Did you know that February is also Gum Disease Awareness month? We put together a few tips to help reduce the risk of getting gum disease.

What is gum disease? Gum disease, also known as Periodontal disease is the inflammation of the gums, and in severe cases, can cause the loss of tissues that hold your teeth in place. There are more than 3 million cases of gum disease a year!

What are the signs of gum disease?

  • Red or swollen gums
  • Tender or bleeding gums
  • Painful chewing
  • Loose teeth
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Gums that have been pulled away from the teeth

Now, let’s dive into some tips to help prevent gum disease:

  • Brush your teeth twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and floss at least once a day to help remove plaque.
  • Maintain a healthy diet full of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Keep your sugar and carb intake low.
  • Say no to smoking! Tobacco’s sugars and irritants can eventually cause gum infections. If you do smoke and want to quit, click here to learn more.
  • Lastly, it is very important that you come in every 6 months to get a professional cleaning done. Call or request an appointment online today!

Schedule Your Appointment

Please choose the option below that best describes you:

If you have a Dental Emergency, please CALL your preferred Park Dental location.

I am an Existing Patient and would like to schedule my regular cleaning and exam appointment online.

I am a New Patient, or an Existing Patient looking to schedule dental treatment.

If you are covered under a Medicaid (Medical Assistance/MA) plan, you must call the practice to request your appointment.

Why do some doctors not have a star rating or comments?

In order to provide our patients with the most accurate and beneficial information, we only post star ratings and comments for a doctor once they have received a minimum of 30 surveys within the previous 12 months.
