Get to Know Dr. Mark Severt

This week in our “Get to Know the Park Dental Doctors” feature we’re profiling Dr. Mark Severt from our Coon Rapids practice. In his profile, Dr. Severt shares his treatment philosophy, what he enjoys about being a dentist, as well as some fun facts about his personal life. What made you choose dentistry?

I was interested in the medical field and was good with my hands. Dentistry seemed like a good combination of the two.

What do you love most about being a dentist or what do you find the most rewarding?

I do enjoy when the art and the treatment come together to make something or rebuild something for a patient that will last.

What’s your care/treatment philosophy?

I really try to figure out what the best lasting option for the patient would be.

Is there a particular area of dentistry you enjoy the most or like to focus on?

Not really. I do most procedures. They are all rewarding if done correctly.

When did you start or how many years have you been with Park Dental?

June 1996, so nearly 28 years!

What is one thing you love most about Park Dental?

For as long as I have been around, Park Dental has always focused on the care of patients above everything else.

What do you enjoy most about being part of a group practice?

Collaboration. Not everything in dentistry is straightforward, so it is nice to get other thoughts at times.

 

And now, for some fun, let’s get to know Dr. Severt on a more personal level!

 

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

A stunt man. This was the late 70’s, so there were many of the shows on TV.

What was your very first job?

Pushing Carts at the Cashwise foods in St. Cloud.

What do you like to do on your days off?

Play guitar and be with my family.

What’s your favorite food or drink?

Pizza and a beer at Surly.                             

Who is your hero or who inspires you?

I don’t know if it is any one person. There is so much inspiration out there from so many people.

What is an interesting fact that people may not know about you?

I build my own guitars.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Currently, probably New Zealand

What’s your favorite movie?

Tombstone.

What’s your favorite genre of music to listen to?

That’s a tough one.. It depends on the time of year I suppose. I grew up with Led Zeppelin and then 80’s hair metal. Also James Taylor and folk guitar music.

What are your hobbies?

Music and golf.

What’s your favorite holiday?

The Fourth of July.

Do you speak any other languages?

Some Spanish and French. But not enough to say fluent.

Are you scared of or have a fear of anything?

Oh of course.. I don’t love to fly ever since I had a plane engine on fire, but I still do.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Minnesota?

Family.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I don’t think so.

What’s your favorite season?

Summer.

What’s your favorite color?

Blue.

What’s your favorite animal?

An elephant.

How many different states have you lived in?

Just Minnesota!
