What made you choose dentistry?
I enjoyed science classes in high school and was interested in the medical field as a means to help people. When my orthodontist introduced me to dentistry by asking if I was skilled with my hands and artistry, I knew that it was the right fit.
What do you love most about being a dentist or what do you find the most rewarding?
There are many aspects, from developing long-term relationships with families, witnessing the true joy on someone’s face after an improvement to their smile, to establishing trust with someone that has not been to the dentist in a longtime due to past troubles. Yet, I find alleviating pain and infection to be the most rewarding.
What’s your care/treatment philosophy?
It is an honor to be someone’s chosen dentist. As a conservative provider, I appreciate the opportunity to listen to our patients and advise them on their options, so they may choose what is best for them as individuals. When suited, I believe that a dash of humor is an important part of the dental visit and beyond.
Is there a particular area of dentistry you enjoy the most or like to focus on? Endodontics, which is the field of root canal therapy. I can think of no greater service that I can provide, as it serves to relieve significant pain and infection while preserving natural teeth.
When did you start or how many years have you been with Park Dental?
I started as a Patient Care Coordinator prior to dental school in 2009 and as a dentist in 2014. My wife began as a hygienist in 2010. We have uniquely combined 25 plus years of experience here from a variety of vantage points.
What is one thing you love most about Park Dental?
I wholly believe in our patient-centered, doctor owned and led group practice model. I believe we can collectively set the highest standards of patient experience and outcomes when leadership has a clinical background.
What do you enjoy most about being part of a group practice?
This group is full of many talented people that I have fun with both inside and outside of the practice. I feel lucky to share in our collaboration and the relationships we’ve formed.
Now, lets get to know Dr. Pumper on a more personal level!
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A pilot – I’ve always been fascinated by flight. I remember building a glider with an 8’ wingspan for a 7th grade project on the Wright Brothers, and our son’s name is of course, “Maverick.”
What do you like to do on your days off?
Do something active with my wife and two kids, lose balls on the golf course, or quite simply – catch up and get something done at home.
What’s your favorite food or drink?
I always look forward to washing down a banana and peanut butter with hot coffee before morning workouts. That said, it is hard to beat a medium-rare, reverse-seared ribeye on a summer evening at home.
What is an interesting fact that people may not know about you?
I have two baby teeth…they keep me young.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Although I have a bucket list, I’d go anywhere with my family and friends. Looking back, it’s been more about sharing in the laughs and experiences than the destination.
What’s your favorite movie?
I can probably quote the entirety of “Dumb and Dumber” and many Will Ferrell classics. Yet, “Interstellar” is the perfect combo of sci-fi, intellectual exercise, and audio/visual experience.
What are your hobbies?
Golf, dad jokes, fishing, campfire guitar, making Gopro videos, R/C airplanes, and nailing a good TikTok dance challenge.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I wouldn’t call it talent, nor does it stay hidden for long, but it is usually difficult to find someone having more fun than me on the same dance floor.
What’s your favorite animal?
The peregrine falcon comes to mind. It is the fastest animal on the planet, diving at speeds of over 200mph to catch other birds (sorry, another grade school project.)
