Get to Know Dr. Corine McLellan

In this week’s installment of “Get to Know the Park Dental Doctors”, we’re introducing you to Dr. Corine McLellan at Park Dental Blaine East.  With over 20 years of service with Park Dental, Dr. McLellan tells us what she finds most rewarding about being a dentist and the group practice setting.  She also shares a few fun facts about herself.  Enjoy learning more about Dr. McLellan!

What made you choose dentistry? 
I chose dentistry because I wanted to be in the health field and serve people.  My mom is a nurse and my dad a pharmacist, so when I had my wisdom teeth taken out, I thought,” I could be a dentist!” 

What do you love most about being a dentist or what do you find the most rewarding? 
The relationships that I have made with my patients is the most rewarding part of dentistry.  I love to watch young patients grow up, witness the confidence that shows when a smile is restored, relieving a tooth ache that may have kept someone up all night, and helping to relieve anxiety as we work together to complete a procedure.   

What’s your care/treatment philosophy? 
My philosophy of care is to achieve optimum dental health while prioritizing patient needs and expectations.  We develop a treatment plan together and I strive to encourage good home care habits and education to help reduce future dental work needs. 

Is there a particular area of dentistry you enjoy the most or like to focus on? 
I really enjoy restoring one’s smile whether it is through fixing a chipped front tooth or delivering a denture.   

When did you start or how many years have you been with Park Dental? 
I started with Park Dental right out of dental school almost 21 years ago.   

What is one thing you love most about Park Dental? 
Park Dental is doctor owned so the focus is on patient care not just financial goals.  

What do you enjoy most about being part of a group practice? 
In group practice, I am able to collaborate with my fellow doctors on treatment plans or to discuss unique situations, I can learn from others’ experiences, and I can develop confidence to try new or challenging procedures knowing their support is right down the hall thereby enhancing my growth as a dentist.   

And now for a little fun, let’s get to know Dr. McLellan on a personal level.

• What did you want to be when you were a kid? 
  I wanted to be an artist or maybe a doctor. 
• What was your very first job? 
  My very first job was a babysitter at the Northtown Racquet Club, but I worked over 5 years at the Dairy Queen across the street from our Blaine practice.   
• What do you like to do on your days off? 
  I love to play board games or do puzzles with my family or friends and try to get outside to take a long walk with my dogs.   
• What’s your favorite food or drink? 
  I really only drink water and maybe a root beer when I splurge.  I will never decline a cookie or bar that is offered to me, doesn’t even matter what kind! 
• Who is your hero or who inspires you? 
  I can’t think of just one person that inspires me but like to take the good I see and the people I come in contact with and let that be my continual inspiration.   
• What is an interesting fact that people may not know about you? 
  I went to the state competition for cross country skiing in high school. 
• If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? 
  I’d go back to Belgium where I had the BEST waffle with strawberries and whipped cream on it.   
• What’s your favorite movie? 
  Tommy Boy; I love any Chris Farley movie but as I write this, I can’t deny The Greatest Showman as my favorite. 
• What’s your favorite genre of music to listen to? 
  I tend to enjoy my daughter’s pop music so we can blast it in the kitchen and sing and dance together to it!   Dua Lipa – Levitating. 
• What are your hobbies? 
  I absolutely love going to the gym; HIIT class, Zumba, Kick-boxing, and yoga.  I also enjoy most things outdoors; walking, gardening, fishing, and puzzles and games. 
• What’s your favorite holiday? 
  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because there are so many things to be grateful for. 
• Are you scared of or have a fear of anything? 
  I am terrified to go through the car wash so I always have a dirty car in the winter. 
• What’s your favorite thing about living in Minnesota/Wisconsin? 
  The best thing about Minnesota is cabin life in the summer .
• What’s your favorite season? 
  Fall is my favorite season.  The trees and colors of the leaves is so beautiful. 
• What’s your favorite color? 
  Purple  
• What’s your favorite animal? 
  Dogs – they make the best pets and always so happy to see you and cuddle with. 
• How many different states have you lived in? 
  I have actually lived in Blaine, Minnesota, my entire life.
