Cosmetic Dentistry: A Brief Overview
December 11, 2017Esthetic or Cosmetic Dentistry is a discipline of dentistry that deals with enhancing or restoring someone’s smile.
Related procedures can be as simple as tooth whitening or as complicated as a full-mouth reconstruction of teeth that have been neglected for many years. With the advent of dental implants, especially, we can provide patients with hopeless teeth an esthetic and functional solution that will give them back the confidence they need to smile again.
Dental materials are undergoing constant improvements, and today we have a vast palette of shades of composite or “white filling” material to tackle most esthetic problems. Crowns or “caps” can be fabricated without any metal inside and therefore can look more lifelike than ever.
Whatever our patient’s needs or wants are, today’s esthetic dentistry will most likely have a solution. It is imperative though that the oral cavity (teeth, gums and bone, alike) is healthy without any inflammation or infections in order for our efforts to last for years to come.
