Back-to-School Dental Tips
October 17, 2024Did you know that tooth decay is the most common disease amongst children? According to the Minnesota Dental Association children miss over miss over 51 million school hours every year due to tooth decay and other oral health concerns. Back-to-school is a great time to schedule your child’s dental checkup to ensure they start the school year with a happy and healthy smile!
- Overall Check-Up/Exam: During the exam your dentist will identify any underlying issues with your child’s teeth, gums or mouth. This is also a great opportunity to discuss any concerns you have with your dentist.
- Cleanings: A professional cleaning is one of the best ways to prevent tooth decay and gum disease by removing harmful plaque buildup. Regular cleanings also reinforce good oral habits that will promote lifelong dental health.
- X-Rays: X-Rays are taken when necessary to help your dentist see how your teeth are developing and ensure that the roots are healthy. An X-Ray can also help your dentist see any tooth decay that is between your teeth.
- Get fit for a mouth-guard: for young athletes, a properly fitted mouth-guard is one of the best ways to prevent dental trauma and sports-related dental injuries.
- Sealants: Sealants are a great way to help protect teeth from tooth decay. Molars and other chewing surfaces are especially vulnerable to decay, particularly in children who are often less effective at cleaning their teeth. To learn more about dental sealants, click here.
